FFXIV (under the Rapture codename) has been in development for some years now, perhaps as early as ToAU release. To have them giving 2010 as a release date is pretty reassuring in my book.
LOL, funnily enough this was one of my thoughts too... I think it won't be long behind but the whole reason I started XI was because XII was years late...

They had been giving a 2009-2010 date for a couple years now.
Of course, given Square-Enix' track record of spaghetti code and all that crap...
