Why play?

No I'm not going to whine like a DRK about how SE sucks and the game is horrible. That isn't what this is about.

The reality of my time in the game at the moment is that I have about two months left before leaving for university again, and I don't need to jeopardize my grades by playing FFXI. So the question is, knowing that I'll be gone for 8 months (or forever) in a while, what motivation is there to play? Sure, there's some stuff, like I'm leveling SMN because I always wanted to wear the AF. Bigger picture though, why go to dynamis? Well, for that it's because I like the people there (mostly, loldrama and lolidiots), but as a more general thing, knowing that you're going to be leaving, and having a definite date really drives home the point that everything anyone does in FFXI is meaningless.

It's a really strange feeling, and a lot of people I know would benefit from feeling it.
